Update Identification

Updates a single identification in place. Only the fields you supply change; omitted fields keep their stored values, so there is no need to resend the legal entity's other identifications or to know the stored id_number.

To attach a document to an existing identification, use Create Document with documentable_type=Identification.

You cannot update legal_entity_id because identifications cannot be reparented.

📘

A taxpayer id_number (for example an SSN or EIN) can only be changed while the legal entity is pending or suspended, which is the path for correcting a mistyped number. Other id_number values, such as a passport or driver's license, can be updated at any time.

UUID of the identification to be updated.

Body Params

The type of ID number. See list of Identifications.

The ID number of the identification document. A taxpayer id number can only be changed while the legal entity is pending or suspended.

The ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code of the country that issued the identification. Not needed for ID types with a country code prepended.

string

The sub-national region (state, province, territory) that issued the identification document. For a US driver's license issued in California, this would be "CA".

date

The date when the Identification is no longer considered valid by the issuing authority.
