Programmatic Cases for Onboarding RFIs

For common compliance failures, when a legal entity fails an automated compliance check during onboarding, Modern Treasury will open a Case recording what's needed to resolve it.

Customers will receive a case.opened webhook and can retrieve or list Cases via the API. Cases resolve automatically once the legal entity is updated through PATCH /legal_entities/:id and compliance re-verification passes.

Open Cases and their history will also appear against a Legal Entity in the Cases tab.

Change to webhook events for returned payments

Starting November 2, 2026, PSP Payment Orders that where a return is received before any completion signal will transition directly from sent to returned:

You'll receive a single payment_order.returned event — no payment_order.completed event.
Ledgering is unchanged: the original Payment Order still posts its Ledger Transaction, and the Return reverses it.
Payment Orders returned after completion are unchanged — you'll still receive both events.

All new organizations will have this behavior by default starting today. Existing BYO Bank customers are excluded from this migration unless they opt-in, which is available to all customers today.
